nutec flat sheets

Everite high-density and medium density flat sheets provide architects with considerable scope for design flexibility and creative expression. Used for vertical or horizontal surface (ceiling) applications, Everite flat sheets are produced in a smooth or textured finish.

The popularity of the product is attributed to is functional and aesthetic appeal and over the years has been specified to a variety of landmark projects in South Africa.

The versatility of the product is clearly demonstrated at the Nedcor building in Sandton – here more than 6 000m² of Nutec flat sheets for interior cladding were installed.

The internal concourse or atrium, which links the four wings of the building, rises through seven floor levels to a glazed roof. Nutec flat sheets, with a sanded epoxy coating, were specified to clad the upper levels of the atrium, above the sandstone cladding that is carried through from the exterior to the ground and first floor levels internally.

Nutec flat sheets were specified because it is a dimensionally stable material and can be finished with an epoxy coating in a colour selected to suit the sandstone cladding.

At Century City in Milnerton, Cape Town, Nutec flat sheets were installed to the impressive structure that stands about 10m high, 20m wide and 4m deep. Nutec Flat sheets were specified as they suited the fast-track construction method and would be easy to install. Another consideration was that at the time of construction, the main access road which the gateway spans was being used by rollers, trucks and other heavy vehicles and the vibration in the structure caused by those vehicles meant that a conventional plaster finish would not be suitable.

The Zone @ Rosebank in Johannesburg is a perfect example that highlights Nutecs functional and aesthetic properties. In this instance, complex groundwork for the development necessitated low-mass construction above ground.

For example, in the third floor cinema complex, the enclosing walls had to be especially light in weight while sufficiently strong and durable – Nutec 10mm flat sheets met these requirements and were specified for the outer skin of the cinema walls.

The other requirement was that the whole wall structure was designed to be lightweight and, at the same time had to provide effective weather and sound-proofing for the cinemas. Nutec fat sheets were ideal for this requirement. Boards were fixed to a timber sub-frame on neoprene gaskets and sealed with silicone. Each panel measured 1200mm square and in total close to 5000m² of Nutec panels have been installed. Panels were coated with a primer pre-installation and then painted in-situ to provide the required light grey matt finish.

Similarly at Cavendish Square in Cape Town, the lightweight Nutec panels made for easy handling and installation and meant that they could be supported on light gauge metal or timber frames using the neoprene gasket system on the joints, providing a weather proof façade. This factor, together with the product’s other technical properties, made Nutec flat sheets the perfect finish for The Zone and Cavendish Square – where low mass construction was a priority.

The Newlands Rugby Ground grand stand extensions, Cape Town. In this instance due to the existing foundation limitations, the engineers specification called for a lightweight cladding material which would not affect the existing design load of the footings. The high strength to weight ration of 10mm thick Nutec Flat sheets made it a perfect choice for this new addition. Using open joint fixing to a light weigh sub frame, the Nutec panels were sealed on the inside face with a neoprene weatherproof gasket at the joints.

The new Vodacom regional headquarters at Century City, Cape Town, is a further endorsement of the product.
