Sustainability Initiatives

We are dedicated to achieving our sustainability goals, including carbon neutrality and waste reduction. Our specific projects and programs aim to minimise environmental impact through renewable energy installations and water conservation efforts. Key initiatives include:

  • Water Recycling and Use: Implementing water recycling processes and reducing water use.
  • Waste Reduction: Integral to our operational targets, which focus on plant efficiency and product rework. This includes comprehensive waste reduction programs and an increase in recycled content.
  • Technological Innovations: Adopting RO* systems for boilers and KARA workflow management systems to improve operational efficiency.

Energy and Emissions

Our commitment to reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions is demonstrated through several measures:

  • Energy Efficiency: Our boilers are fuelled by coal and wood chips from our joinery factory, and stack emissions are closely monitored. We also operate silica mills at night to leverage lower electricity demand.
  • Advanced Motor Technology: Use Variable Speed Drives (VSD) and Softstarters to reduce inrush current.
  • Lighting Systems: Installation of state-of-the-art lighting systems and retrofits to minimise energy output.
  • SmartWay Partnership: Collaboration with the EPA’s* SmartWay Transport program to reduce our carbon footprint through improved freight transportation efficiency. Our trucks are equipped with Roadnet, a fuel-saving technology.
  • Fleet Management: Increased fuel efficiency in our distribution fleet with policies like idle-free delivery zones.
  • Sustainability Programs: Initiatives across our facilities to reduce fossil fuel consumption, promote recycling, and minimise our carbon footprint.

Resource Management

Our practices for sustainable resource use include comprehensive water management, recycling programs, and the sustainable sourcing of materials. Key strategies involve:
  • Recycling Opportunities: Investigation into various recycling possibilities for AAC and production waste.
  • Forest and Resource Integrity: Commitment to maintaining the sustainability of our forests and natural surroundings through certified sourcing and recycled content.
  • E-waste Program: E-waste management, including dry toner, computers, batteries, and monitors.
  • Responsible Sourcing: Adherence to standards like FSC* for wood products and compliance with SMETA*, ISPM-15*, and ISPM-39*.

Biodiversity

We actively work to protect and enhance biodiversity through initiatives like habitat conservation projects and partnerships with environmental organisations. Notable efforts include:

  • Invasive Alien Plant Program: Implemented to manage and control invasive species.
  • FSC* Chain of Custody: Ensuring responsible sourcing and environmental stewardship.
